Link building spam has been an effecgive link building strategy for 10+ years. THe problme is two-fold in my experience.
- It’s hard to control, even harder to unwind. If you need to remove some links, spam is about the most difficult thing you’ll try to remove. You can disavow but that’s different that a complete removal.
- Sometimes it has the opposite effect. I’ve seen sites get penalized because they built spammy and low quality links to their own domain.
